Years 9-11 Language through Film is a practical resource book for English language teachers, working with higher-level learners in ESL courses for developing spoken fluency, cultural awareness, knowledge of functional language, vocabulary and pronunciation use, listening skills and drama techniques through film. This book will also be valuable for mainstream English teachers working with students with low literacy levels. The book is divided into six units, each containing ready-to-use photocopiable classroom activities, which teachers can use to explore the following feature films: •Muriel’s Wedding •Love Actually •American Beauty •Shrek •Romeo & Juliet and short clips from Scream 2, Ed Wood, Brigit Jones’ s Diary, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and The Devil Wears Prada. Unit 1 to 5 contain activities which can be used for students to work with whole films in segments or as free-standing individual activities. Unit 6 presents miscellaneous ideas for involving students in viewing, analysing and discussing short film clips in one-off activities. Teachers will not require knowledge of film techniques to make effective use of this book.
